Weekly Avalanche Report!
Kevin Davis, from the U.S. Forest Service provides a weekly avalanche report for Northern Idaho. This information will
be updated every Friday through the snowmobile riding season.
It is imperative that each snowmobile rider know the conditions before riding. It could save a life!
RIDE SAFE and SMART!
Since avalanches are the number one cause of snowmobile fatalities in the west, it is imperative that you as a snowmobile enthusiast understand and practice proper hazard recognition and techniques
for safe travel in avalanche terrain.
Myth: Avalanches only occur on steep slopes, in back country areas.
Fact: Any slope that is 35 degrees or more can slide, on the side of a trail,
even groomed not just in the back country!
With the fact above, it means anyone going snowmobiling should be prepared, not only to avoid an avalanche, but how to
rescue someone else or survive one if you are the victim. Mother nature isn't biased; she will allow anyone to be part of her
course, if you let her!
